THESE ARE THE KALIN TWINS FIRST RECORDER IN 1959 = LOOK OUT FOR SIR CLIFF - GREAT BAND

Tuesday, 29 June 2010

Well I have been thinking about my friend Geoff Williams, and it has come in to my mind that he was in The Tony Jackson Group. Now this groups singer who sadly died a few years ago, and in his day sung with The Searchers - with "Sweets for my Sweet" and Mike Pender was the Lead Guitar, who I only saw some weeks ago, and at 68 he still looks great, and boy can he play that 12 string.

THE GULLS HAVE GONE !

I have had over 200 hits on my Blogg, re the
Seagull story, well it has worked, the 2 pairs of gulls have gone off the roofs, mine own and my next door neighbours.
I have clean windows, not any mess for 1 week this I find very hard to believe, so if you have Seagull problems in one way or another, then one way is to get a dead Gull, now where to get them, I would try a local bird centre, or down here in Cornwall there is a Bird Centre at Mousehole, Near Penzance, Cornwall, I would offer them a Fiver, and tell them what it is for. I hope it works for you.

GETTING RID OF SEA GULLS (my way)

Sad I know, but it has to be done, last year I had a lot of damage done by sea gulls. I have put special wires on the roof, cables etc., at a cost of over £500, but a lady here is St. Ives told me her dear old aunt many years ago found a dead sea gull she put it on back house roof, and guess what, yes all the other gulls stayed away from her house for ever. Last week I found a dead sea gull in the road, it must have been hit by a car, and l have done the same thing, so far NO gulls, and they have nested on my roof for years. I will keep you posted.

FUNERAL OF MR. REG. WATKISS

The Funeral Service has taken place at Penzance, Cornwall of Reg. Watkiss who passed away on April 13th aged 76.
With his wife Gill he moved to West Penwith after his art studies in London. He taught in local Schools and Colleges. He was a good artist, photographer and writer having done many books, he was also a potter and even had a Pottery at Treen, near Pezance, one of his daughters, and his only son gave their personal tributes, which for a change did not say the same thing twice. lt was a very dignified service, with not a host of people, but with those who wished to be there to pay their respects. He will, and really will be missed by his wife Gill, his daughters, son and grand-children. Burial followed in Penzance Cemetery.

Reg. Watkiss - Artist - passed this week in Cornwall

It is with sadness that I heard to-day that Mr. Reg Watkiss Art Teacher, and a very good artist has died, I know he was very poorly, I only saw him just before Christmas, and he was cheerful, but I feel he put in on. He was my Art Teacher 50 years ago, and to remember him, shows what a good teacher and person he was. I am a great admirer of his wife Gill Watkiss (painting far left) two great artists in one family, both different styles, as in my early Bloggs I have two of her paintings. To Gill her family I wish you all Gods Blessing through this very sad time.

THE TRUE STORY OF THE FIG TREE

There is a story in The Bible that Jesus and Peter were out walking, and Jesus said to Peter "what is your favourite fruit" - Peter thought - if I say "The Grape" The Lord will think I am a drinker, so Peter said "The Fig" - and Jesus said - "well from this day on, the Fig Tree will show fruit twice a year" - and yes it does.

One could not make up a story like that !

Sunday, 13 December 2009

This picture was painted by Gill Watkiss, one of my Favourite Lady Artists, along with Rose Hilton, on Saturday Phil and myself went to Penzance where this picture was painted, and I actually saw Mrs. Watkiss, I already have one of her wonderful works, with a second on the way. We had a full day in Penzance, and did a lot of shopping, in fact when we got back to my home in St. Ives I even dressed and put up a Christmas Tree with Lights, the first time I have put up a tree for close on 7 years. And the weather was windy, like the picture. This work of art looks - well - how can I explain, but I all I know until you see one, and hold one, you will never know the wealth of talent in the artists brush, and the passion of the content. One Day - this ladys work will be saught after.

Gill Watkiss - In my view the Next Great Artist

To-day after an invitation of the Artist, Gill Watkiss, so I drove to Penzance, Cornwall, to view her work, with the option to purchase if I desired, so after fighting the traffic, I arrived at this wonderful and great Victorian House, she met me at the front door, a very slender lady, size 8, very well spoken, and gentle, yet her pictures are mostly of windy days and views, and not what I expected. After a chat I started to view her works, and after some while . . . yes, I choose one, not like the one shown, but very close. When I buy pictures, it is a number of months before I hang them. I am well pleased.

To-day my sister has died, a very brave lady, although 80 years of age she brought me up in my early years, as I was nearly up for adoption, of course I never knew this, but I did hold any grudge against my parents, as it made me what I am to-day, our pasts make our future, live, and care for others.
GOD BLESS YOU . . . Corby x x x Colin

Had a great few days at St. Ives, on the beach Friday, lunch at THe Porthminster Beach Cafe, now World Famous, but gone a little, NO a lot . . expensive, but those coming from London, well cheaper, as London is the most expensive City in the world, or so I read. But the food is wonderful,
we had a Ceasar Salad, and it was a bowl full. The weather was great, got my tan topped up. Then back into town, mooched the shops. Then back to the house, in evening by the tele. Saturday, mixed Day, what with my sister very poorly, spent some time with her, then back to St. Ives. Sunday . . . Church, bacon butty, back to my other home, and then had a True Cornish Cream Tea.

Tuesday, 4 August 2009

To-day I watched right through, "The Spanish Gardener", the last days have not been easy what with this and that, but some of the lines in this film, have in a way, yes . . . put thoughts in my mind, that even those who think they know what is right, are not, shall we say always correct. The film was made in 1956, the only sad bit was that those who played Spaniards, spoke 1st Class English, Oxford or Cambridge taught. Loved it though.
